social networks artistsListed here are 10 social networks for artists. Each of them have unique features for artists, including:

  1. Networking with other creative people around the world.

  2. Connecting with art galleries, curators, and art collectors.

  3. Unconventional Guide to Art & Money Some allow the addition of a personal portfolio, and creation of art blogs.

  4. Most allow attachment of a website link, and in some cases, social networking profiles. This is helpful for encouraging visits to a portfolio website, and good for Google search ranking.

  5. Listings of call for entry, art competitions, art events, exhibitions, art jobs, freelancing, and art licensing opportunities.

  6. Keep up to date with current art news and art happenings.

In case you are wondering, I have a profile at each of these artist social networks, but of course do not have time to visit each regularly. At each, I make sure I have email settings set to accept notifications, so that I will only have to log in to respond to queries. When I need to add artworks, I open up separate tabs in my browser, and add the same titles, tags, and description. This, of course, saves me quite a bit of time.

1 - CultureInside Gallery

culture inside gallery Culture Inside Gallery is a gallery run social network, and includes space for artists to add artworks, biography, artist statement, and an art blog. CultureInside Gallery holds a  regular call for entry where winners not only may exhibit online, but at the CI Art Gallery as well.

One innovative thing I saw here is the lightbox. The lightbox can be used to keep track of other artists, and in return, your art will be promoted inside someone else’s lightbox. This seems completely random, but is a great way of meeting other artists with similar interests.

 2 - LabforCulture.org

labforculture europe art networkLab for Culture is a European social network for artists and art lovers. Members may create a blog, start an art group, and add links to other profiles and websites.

Read current art news, keep track of art events and exhibitions, and find art jobs in Europe. Here, European artists can find out how to receive funding for a particular art project.

  1. I am delighted that I subscribed to your blog as I have learned so much from your posts. This one today is an excellent example, as although I am registered on a few art sites like Wet Canvas, Deviant, Art-Portfolio and Fine Art America which offer similar services, I had not heard of any of the ones you mentioned today. I thank you for this, and I know it is so very time consuming, (enough to have inspired me with the topic for my own blog today,) but the Internet is indispensable in marketing our Art these days and social networking platforms for artists specifically are really helpful in connecting with other creative people and getting our name out there. Thanks for a great post.

  3. Hi Graham, thank you for this information. Which social networking site for artists have you found to be most successful (most members, most frequently visited, well-known, etc) and why? I am a current art school student and find that very few of my peers are actually using these sites. Why do you think these networking platforms are lacking adoption, and what can they do to improve their following?? Thanks so much for your insights!

  4. Thanks Angelina... of these I can't really recommend one above another.. they all have their own distinct art communities and purposes. The main reason they are lacking adoption, in my opinion, is that there are so many of these types of sites, hence alot of competition. There are others that are more famous than these, such as Redbubble and Fine Art America. I find that most artists spend more time networking on Facebook and Linkedin (myself included). But, I do login to these when I receive feedback about one of my paintings.

    1. Hi Landman, I find it very interesting that you are founding one of these sites. I was wondering and maybe you or Graham have an idea. How do these sites make money?
I know banners and publicity may help, but is it enough to survive? I have seen online galleries that take a percentage of the art they sell, but here, when there is such an easy access to talk to the artist I guess that people would go for outside deals instead of paying a commission to the intermediary or website... don’t know, but I am really interested in the business side of it. Could you share or give me some insight?
      Thanks!!!
ps. Im an art dealer in México City

  14. Great listing of resources! I would also add Wetcanvas.com.
It's 'old school' bulletin board but I find lots of useful information and thousands of friendly artists willing to share advice and feedback. It's also been around since 1998 so it has a loyal following.

  30. Did you know that businesses all around the world are hiring people just like you to help manage their social media accounts such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube?
There is a lot of money in it, and the best part is that you don’t need any qualifications, prior experience or specialized skills. All you need is a few spare hours per week, a computer with an internet connection and a good knowledge of how to use Facebook, Twitter or YouTube.
