Energetic Funky and Vibrant
I am a 40 year old Canadian artist living and breathing everything ART.. I make funky abstract Modern acrylic paintings and videos of me in action creating them on Youtube.
I had always been interested in art since I was 2 years old... I watched my grandfather painting in his studio... and I guess it stuck with me for a life time.
I like to experiment with all sorts of styles. My main interest is abstract modern art or street art... my favorite artists that have inspired me the most are Basquiat, Haring and Picasso.
I tend to use acrylics and markers the most. However I do like adding spray paint and oil pastels sometimes as well.
Technique and Process
When I paint I never really have a set idea to what I am about to create...I basically just "Slap it Down!" . hahaha The ideas form as I work away at it... Then BAM I have a painting!
My main themes are faces... all sorts of twisted faces and eye balls, ladders, birds, houses, crazy creatures etc...
Where do you get your ideas?
My ideas form from everyday life... also researching other artists on the internets. I find that motivates me the most... Once I get that burst of Inspiration I just start painting.
Why do you make art?
I create art because I love it and it's the only thing I know how to do well enough to make money at...I sell worldwide through eBay and Youtube... I love the challenges and finding new ways to be unique.
How often do you create?
I paint and make videos at least 2 or 3 times a week. I have 2 young kids at home and try to squeeze in painting time at night for a few hours.
What is the best artwork you ever created?
I'm not sure I have created my best art yet...I do have some paintings I love but as far as the best... I don't think it has been painted yet.
What role does the artist play in society?
The artist is one that takes risks, makes changes and always develops new ways at looking at old trends and shaping them into something amazing... The artist is a different bread of human with an understanding of creativity and invention.
Do you make a living with your art?
Yes, I sell on eBay mostly. I do also get random emails from people seeing my videos on Youtube asking for requests etc... I also sell at Artfusion, which is a monthly art show in my city.
My favorite is Youtube and Facebook... It has the largest population base and is easy to spread the word around and be seen by lots of viewers.
My main art influences are Basquait, Haring, Picasso, Miro and Kandinsky. Each of these artists and I have taken ideas from and developed my own unique style of painting.
Please recommend a contemporary artist to us.
One of my favorite artists at the moment is Tessar Sebastian Lo. His style of mixing abstract and figurative work is amazing and his use of soft colours really inspires me.
A few years ago I was picking up one of my paintings at the art gallery I was showing at..and in the same trip stopped by the Good Will to pick up a desk I had bought earlier...To make room for the desk I had taken out my painting and placed it at the side of the building... forgetting to put it back in the car...drove off and didn't realize it was gone until I got a phone call from my friend saying he had seen it for sale in the Good Will... I drove back to get it and it had sold for $30. I thought that was pretty funny...lol
Did you ever feel like giving up art?
Never. Art is a part of me...If I gave up art I would die.
Where do you see yourself as an artist 10 years from now?
I hope to become more well known in the art world...not to popular though just enough to pay the bills and live a life of greatness!
Advice for Emerging Artists
Just keep at it...practice and experiment as much as you can...study what other artists are doing...open your eyes to the world and take it all in. The best advice is to live and breath art...that’s the best way to get addicted to creating and evolving. Everything is ART and should be appreciated.
