Hello, although I sign my work as Samuelj my name is Jesse , I think I'm mostly a typical kind of teenage guy that likes a variety of hobbies, including camping, fishing, quad bike riding and other things. But I do like drawing and painting, my Grandmother is a pretty good oil painter and I think that's where I started to like painting from. I did Art all through school and it was by far my favourite subject.
Please tell us about your first experience creating.
I like drawing because it's fun! It's something creative to do, and I'd prefer to do something productive with my time, and especially if I can create something that someone would like to hang in their home.
What music do you like to have playing while creating art?
I like country music mostly, but a bit of pop is always good to listen to. It's funny how I tend to draw to the beat of the music as well. lol.
If you have a job besides being an artist, can you tell us about it?
I'm an apprentice builder :)
What are you trying to convey to viewers through your art?
I don't really think I have a message to convey through my art when I create it, but if it makes people feel happy to look at something then that's awesome.
Tell us about your creative process, from the beginning of a typical piece to its completion:
Sometimes I just have ideas that I try to put down onto paper or canvas.
What things inspire you to create art?
Nature, other art, and also paint, when I see tubes of paint I just feel like splashing them onto a canvas!
Have you sold any of your artworks?
Yes to friends, and on Facebook, in groups for the local area, and my Facebook page (Samuelj Art)
How do you promote your art on the internet?
Mostly through my Facebook page, and through people looking for smaller starting out artists, (like you guys! Thankyou! :) )
Please recommend another artist you admire, tell us a little about them:
I don't know a lot of other artists personally, but i have liked lots on Facebook, but my grandma does nice paintings :) and she's taught me quite a lot, which I appreciate! So probably her.
If you could live your life over again, would there be anything you would do differently?
I would probably not waste so much time on the computer, and do more important things! Like spending time with friends and family. Lol but I'm only 18 so I still have a while to live hopefully lol!
What plans do you have for the future of your art?
I think it would be awesome if I could make a living out of it, not to become rich or anything, but I could then hopefully work my to my own schedule and use my time more wisely then!
Do you have any good advice for emerging artists?
Make a Facebook page, just try and sell your art to people, but do you best work :) and be patient.
