As a child I always wanted to have something to hold on to, to grasp and call mine. Art was the only way I could escape the way I felt at certain times when I had nothing else to lean on. My art is made from me, the true essence of who I am because I put all of my feelings and emotions into a piece when I work on it. Right now I'm a student still in High School, a senior in fact, but I know what I want to do in life. I know I want to create art and inspire as many people as I can.

Please tell us about your first experience creating.

Wonder Maryssa AnneMy first experience was when I was in third grade and we did a drawing contest for a local contest and I won third place. I honestly had no clue I had any artistic ability until then, and ever since I can't put down a pencil or paintbrush.

What music do you like to have playing while creating art?

I play mostly Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin. Also any acoustic song depending on my mood.

What are you trying to convey to viewers through your art?

I'm trying to show me in the best way I can. Show my view on life and how I see the world. That's all art is in my opinion.

Tell us about your creative process, from the beginning of a typical piece to its completion:

Normally I get everything ready. Paint, brushes, palette, the usual. Then I get pretty. Sounds cliche when you really think about it. I have to feel confident in myself before I can paint, typical teenager ;) After that I paint away with my music blaring in my studio.

What things inspire you to create art?

Books, movies, news, Tumblr. Pretty much anything I see on the internet or news that affect me. Also my own personal things I am experiencing contribute.

What exhibitions have you had?

Summer Maryssa Anne Women's club of Clayton High school exhibition. State Art Exhibition 1st place and 3rd place. Grandview University National competition Honorable Mention

Have you sold any of your artworks?

I have sold my artwork through my Facebook page and by word of mouth. Also in art shows I get offers.

How do you promote your art on the internet?

Social media. My website, Facebook, Youtube. The usual.

Influences:

Agnes Cecile

Please recommend another artist you admire, and tell us a little about them:

Agnes Cecile is by far my favorite artist. The way she shows emotions through her art work has always inspired me.

Tell us something interesting in your life.

I'm really into Lord of the Rings. I could literally say every single word in all the movies, I've watched them so much.

Too scared to fly away maryssa anne

Do you have an embarrassing moment in your life?

Don't we all? Sadly I don't remember any, I think my mind just works hard to block them out so I don't get too traumatized. :)

If you could live your life over again, would there be anything you would do differently?

Not at all. I'm one of those crazy people who think everything happens for a reason. I wouldn't be where I am now if I haven't gone through what I have.

What plans do you have for the future of your art?

I plan to go to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago for college, then paint on the corner of the street if I don't advance in my art.

Do you have any good advice for emerging artists?

I think that you should believe in yourself and your art most importantly. Don't take what others say to heart if it's what you love and coming from you. In the end your happiness with yourself and your piece is going to make you rise to the top.
