I am an Artist that primarily works with traditional tools such as pencils, ink pens and sometimes acrylic paints and I prefer to draw from my imagination to create new art out of nothing but random ideas in my mind. I'm also working on some of my own graphic novels and children’s book ideas.

Please tell us about your first experience creating.

My first really serious stab at creating began when I left school and went to Art College, it gave me more ideas and broadened my artistic path and journey and just encouraged me to explore new art techniques with increased confidence.

What music do you like to have playing while creating art?

I listen to a large selection of stuff, mainly movie scores that are dramatic and inspiring, but I also listen to Rock, Metal and anything with a good tune that just helps me create new art with a smooth flow.

If you have a job besides being an artist, can you tell us about it?

I'm largely self employed and have an entrepreneurs spirit that took awhile to emerge. I have a few YouTube channels that I use to draw concepts that I either have in my head or that my Subscribers request of me to draw. I sell my own art on occasion and want to devote more time invested to selling more.

What are you trying to convey to viewers through your art?

I'm trying to convey lots of things in my art. Creativity is one and that when you have an idea it is usually best to run with it until you have exhausted it beyond the initial concept. Also I think that my art I think doesn't always have to be completed to actually be any good. Simple draft sketches become the norm when I am creating new art and it becomes an exhilarating creative experience to view when you look back and then see the road ahead with new visions.

Tell us about your creative process, from the beginning of a typical piece to its completion:

I often do various thumb nail sketches that just execute the main idea and I like to develop the best idea within a set of thumb nails. Often I rarely change the composition of the soon to be completed work.

Once the pencil drawing is complete I may decide to ink it which is my own preference for making the drawing more permanent and also scanable on my computer.

When it comes to coloring an artwork that I've inked I like to toy with the coloring and create alternates based on warm and cool colors and see how the finished art looks with different colors layered on it. I use Prismacolor pencils a lot for coloring and the colored pencils I can say is my medium of choice.

What things inspire you to create art?

Movies are a big inspiration to me, I can be sat watching a movie and I'd suddenly imagine my own worlds, characters and situations that could potentially arise. The possibilities are there for me in movies and in Comic books, I love both these mediums as they inspire me no end.

What exhibitions have you had?

I haven't had any art exhibitions, but would love to at some point in my art career, the thought of my work being featured in a gallery sounds exciting and hopefully will still be so sometime in the future.

Have you sold any of your artworks?

Yes I have sold quite a few of my drawings over the years since I have been online and mainly it has been through the internet. Facebook and Twitter I've had people contact me about drawings that they want. I'd like to provide a commission service at some point.

How do you promote your art on the internet?

Facebook, Twitter and YouTube are the 3 main marketing venues of my work. I will be setting up more areas for art promotion on my websites too and even were people can buy art directly from the site.

Tell us about influences

Any professional comic book Artists that I have come across have been massive influences in my work. One of the main influences has been from Writer/Artist Clive Barker, his work is phenomenally inspiring and his paintings and drawings really have had an impact on me as a growing Artist.

Please recommend another artist you admire, and tell us a little about them:

Erik Larsen is a comic book Artist and Writer and a professional one at that and his art and writing style has so much energy and gusto to it. The way He draws comic book page panels is very inspirational.

Tell us something interesting in your life:

I started drawing and creating art from my imagination after having a realization that being normal wasn't for me. I couldn't pick up Math and other subjects at school because I always felt I couldn't understand it beyond the simple addition and subtraction and I always felt like I wasn't a normal learner. I don't particularly think I am Dyslexic but there was definitely something wrong with the way my brain was wired up when I was growing up as I didn't feel I fitted in anywhere whatsoever.

Do you have an embarrassing moment in your life?

Yes I had an embarrassing moment in my life and I suppose it was a creative performance in the arts which I still think about to this day as utterly a red faced cringe worthy moment when ever I think about it.

Back in Primary School we did a play on the Battle of Hastings 1066 and who got lumbered with the role of King Harold who gets an arrow in the eye? Yep you guessed it, me! I remember sitting on a fake horse (of which the Horses head was drawn and painted by me too) and pretending to get an arrow in my eye by holding it against my eye which actually hit my eye and I could feel my cheeks going hot and red with embarrassment.

Performing arts is a deep hatred of mine ever since.

If you could live your life over again, would there be anything you would do differently?

Yes I would have stayed on at Art College and done some advanced art courses and maybe actually finished a degree in Illustration.

What plans do you have for the future of your art?

I have plans for several graphic novels with stories that I've had in my head since I was at school and also some children’s books that I'm also in the process of writing and illustrating. This has been my main Artists goal, to be an illustrator of some sort.

Do you have any good advice for emerging artists?

wayne tully Yes, stick with your specialist art subject and promote your art based around that at the beginning. It can be quite daunting trying to be the everything Artist and you can literally burn yourself out and not get anywhere. So it's best to be known for a certain area and build upon that reputation slowly.
