For the artist spotlight feature here, the final question is "What advice would you have for emerging artists?"
We ask this because we know that artists are the ones who can answer this question honestly and with wisdom. We are the ones who have struggled both with ourselves, and with getting our work out there to the masses. When asked, we have no trouble giving sound guidance and wisdom, backed by experience.
So, with that in mind, we present to you 10 artists who have shared their advice and wisdom for emerging artists.
Being an emerging artist myself, one lesson I’ve learnt recently is art is not just about the end result. It’s a journey, so enjoy the process. Another lesson is to not over think it. When a child draws a picture, they don’t think about it. They just draw. Over time, we lose that ability and we focus on perfection. It not only takes away the fun in creating art, it can obstruct it.
"Just get started. Do something today and then tomorrow and keep on going. There is so much that an artist can do to put his/her art in front of others and the sooner you start that faster you will achieve your goal.
Don't hesitate until you think you are ready, just get out there because you will never know who loves your art until you let them see it."
What good is your art work if it sits in your home for no one to see it.
Don't confuse gratitude and appreciation with worship. JB
Because you are of service doesn’t mean you have or need a master. JB
I’m seeking advice myself. I guess you just have to do what you love and Keep at it no matter what!
Visual Arts is a very competitive field, but never give up. Chase your dreams until they become reality. Never change your style just because someone wants you to, stick with what YOU want, art is SELF expression.
Don’t give up on doing art, it is like eating, breathing, loving…
"If you hear a voice within you say 'you cannot paint,' then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.- Vincent van Gogh"
"I have started a series of paintings on Indian classical music, which depicted by the miniature artists of India, at the historical period of Mughal era. I was curious to see some samples of this long series of paintings, and try to find out the hidden background of this series. I found some references from a book wrote by the formal principal of government collage of art and craft, named Krishnalal Das, and after searching these reference books, I have discovered a unique concepts of Indian classical music which inspired to those miniature artists to create this series. It also inspired me, and I have started again to depict this musical series."
My only advice is to practice EVERYDAY, even when you don't feel like it. Success is a slow process, but worth it in the end.
That's all for this list of featured artists, and their guidance for emerging artists. If you follow our artist spotlight series, you will find plenty more wisdom from artists.
